Best Children's Books of the Year, 2004 ; Bank Street College of Education
Summary: This book of poetry is about activities that take place in the home that children can relate to. This book captures the fact that children are so observant and can be very creative about the things they experience.
Personal response: These poems hold such truths about children and how they interact with the daily operations of a home. One of my favorites is The Interrupter, which is about how some children will not have anything to say until the phone rings.
Classroom connections: After reading this book, I feel that students may have a great deal of personal experiences to share. I thought it would be a great idea to have the students draw a picture of an experience they had and then have a story circle where they would be able to tell the story about their picture.
